POOLER, GA. – Georgia is not out of it in the recruitment of Texas Tech five-star EDGE commit LaDamion Guyton.

After recently reclassifying from the 2027 to 2026 class, the Benedictine Military School (GA) product still hears from the Bulldogs.

Guyton was supposed to visit Athens for Georgia’s game against Ole Miss on Oct. 18, but he didn’t end up making the trip.

“Since I’ve been around Texas Tech they show me nothing but love and the way they show love to my family and the way they’re trying to build something big I want to be part of it,” Guyton said through his manager to Rivals’ Steve Wiltfong on Oct. 15.

UGASports spoke with Guyton on Oct. 30. He didn’t go into too much detail of why he didn’t attend the game.

“I mean, it was kind of behind the scenes, but I’d just rather not talk about it,” Guyton said.

Relationships matter

The Savannah native did confirm that he still talks with Georgia outside linebackers coach Chidera Uzo-Diribe on a “regular basis.”

Guyton thinks very highly of the Bulldogs’ position coach.

“I talk to him on a pretty regular basis, so I’ve still got love for him,” he said.

Guyton and Uzo-Diribe have built up a strong connection since his freshman season.

Why would Guyton possibly flip to Georgia?

According the nation’s No. 6 overall prospect, Georgia sits in a good position to try and flip him. The Bulldogs were one of his first offers and he’s always wanted to play for the Peach State’s flagship program.

Also, besides his relationship with Uzo-Diribe, Guyton has strong connections with Georgia head coach Kirby Smart and freshman defensive lineman Elijah Griffin, his former high school teammate of two years at Savannah Christian (GA). He also has multiple other people in his ear wanting him to become a Bulldog.

So, why would Guyton back off his pledge to the Red Raiders?

“It’ll probably just be because I can’t fight the rage in my heart,” he said. “I’m from Georgia, and it was always my dream to play for their team. It’d mean the world to my family. I know that for sure, and the rest of the city for sure.”

What’s next?

Guyton plans to put pen to paper during the Early Signing Period in December.

While he is committed to Texas Tech, he has Georgia on his mind. He didn’t rule out the idea of taking more gameday visits.

“Right now, that’s what I’m trying to decide on,” he said. “But for right now, I know where I’m going now, so I’m secure, I’m good.”
