Georgia Duo earns SEC Player of the Week Honors

Georgia opened SEC play on the road Saturday, traveling to Neyland Stadium to take on the then-No. 16-ranked Tennessee Volunteers. It was the first true test for a Bulldog team that had some questions yet to be answered.
However, following the thrilling 44-41 overtime win, some of those questions have answers. None being bigger than at quarterback, where in his first road start, Gunner Stockton well exceeded expectations.
The redshirt junior was named the SEC Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts. Stockton completed 23 of his 31 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns. He scored another with his legs and rushed for 38 yards.
The Tiger, Ga., native helped bring the Bulldogs back from an early 21-7 deficit. Stockton led them on the game-tying 75-yard drive late in the fourth quarter. He hit London Humphreys for a 28-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-six that tied the game after a successful two-point conversion.
But Stockton wasn’t the only Bulldog to earn recognition from the SEC for his efforts on Saturday. Kicker Peyton Woodring earned the same honors for special teams. The junior, who in the lead-up to Saturday’s game revealed he preferred kicking in front of away crowds, was perfect on all three of his field goal attempts.
Woodring hit from 20, 48, and 24 yards, while making all three of his extra point attempts. For his career, Woodring has proven to be ultra reliable, making 46 of his 52 field goals, while also hitting on all of his 132 extra-point attempts.
Georgia will now enjoy its bye week before welcoming the Alabama Crimson Tide to Sanford Stadium on Saturday, September 27th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. EST.
