Georgia practice observations

The Georgia Bulldogs allowed the media in to watch the first part of Thursday’s practice. It was the first Georgia practice of Fall Camp. Here is what we saw.

Jed May and Radi Nabulsi discuss what they saw and heard while Kirby Smart was yelling at his players. Which newcomers stood out? Who was praised? Who has a long way to go?

Smart called one guy a turtle and told another to put on his helmet since he wasn’t in Illinois any longer. A few players showed up bigger than expected, and one looked a bit smaller than we thought.

Noted from Jed May

Freshman quarterback Ryan Montgomery is fully cleared following surgery to repair a torn ACL. Good news for Georgia’s quarterback depth.

Transfer receiver Noah Thomas turned heads with his size, as he did in the spring. “Freshman CJ Wiley isn’t that much smaller, although he still needs to fill out a bit.

Elyiss Williams looks in better shape than he did in the spring, in my opinion. The freshman tight end looked so big going up to a tackling dummy that it made me chuckle.

Offensive lineman Juan Gaston looks to be in much better shape than the last time I saw him.

JJ Hanne was getting some early reps with the defensive linemen. Elijah Griffin was also in there as well.

Isaiah Gibson went fourth among the outside linebackers, behind Quintavius JohnsonGabe Harris, and Kris Jones.

Army transfer Elo Modozie reminds me a little bit of Nolan Smith with his frame.

USC safety transfer Zion Branch is jacked. He looked almost more like a linebacker. The roster lists him at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds. Branch went with Joenel Aguero in the second rotation of safeties/stars, behind KJ Bolden and JaCorey Thomas.
