Just six days after helping Georgia win a second-straight SEC Championship, starting punter Brett Thorson brought home another trophy, winning the Ray Guy Award. The award stamps him as the college punter of the year.

The Australian native beat out the likes of Baylor’s Palmer Williams and Troy’s Evan Crenshaw to bring home the award. Thorson now joins former All-American Drew Butler as Georgia’s only two punters to win the Ray Guy Award, and that is despite the senior only playing in 11 games this season.

He missed the season-opening win over Marshall as he continued his recovery from the ACL injury he suffered in last season’s SEC Championship game. Meanwhile, he never saw the field in the 43-35 win over Ole Miss as Georgia’s offense never gave him the chance to punt.

Thorson finished the regular season with 42 punts for 1,900 yards, averaging 45.2 yards per punt. His average punt this season is the second-highest of his career, only behind his 47.6-yard average last year.

As Georgia begins preparations for its College Football Playoff quarterfinal game, Thorson currently ranks second in program history with a 45.5 career punting average, and first in career net punting average at 42.82 yards.

In addition to his performance on the field, Thorson has become a fan favorite for his social media antics. Throughout his time in Athens, the Australian has made his disapproval for Georgia quarterbacks known when the Bulldogs perform too well offensively at his own expense.

Thorson famously screen-recorded a video of himself unfollowing Gunner Stockton on Twitter following the aforementioned Ole Miss win.
