A deep dive into the WVU vs. Kansas football series

West Virginia and Kansas don’t share the same historic rivalry as Pitt, but the Mountaineers and Jayhawks have built a solid series since WVU entered the Big 12. The Mountaineers will travel to Lawrence this week to continue the matchup.
A Glimpse Through the Years
The series began on Nov. 8, 1941, when West Virginia shut out Kansas 21-0 in Morgantown. Since then, the teams have met 13 times, with the most recent game played Sept. 21, 2024, when the Mountaineers pulled out a 32-28 home win.

Streaks
The Mountaineers currently ride a one-game win streak after the victory in 2024. Their longest win streak in the series is eight games from 2014 to 2021, while the Jayhawks’ best is a single win, achieved twice, most recently in 2022.
Margin of Victory
WVU’s largest margin of victory came in 2015, when the Mountaineers rolled 49-0 in Lawrence. The smallest margin came in the latest matchup, a 32-28 win in 2024. Kansas’ biggest win was its 55-42 overtime triumph in 2022.
The teams have combined for 498 total points across the series, with West Virginia averaging 38.31 per game.
Recent History
West Virginia has won nine of the last 10 meetings dating back to 2014. Kansas’ lone victory in that span came in 2022 in Morgantown, a 55-42 overtime result that snapped the Mountaineers’ series dominance.
