DL Jimmori Robinson on dress list for West Virginia
Redshirt senior defensive lineman Jimmori Robinson is on the West Virginia dress list provided to media members prior to the start of the Pittsburgh game and could be available to play.
Robinson had not been listed on the first two releases, but earlier this week head coach Rich Rodriguez had mentioned that he was expecting him to be cleared although there were questions over his status for the Backyard Brawl.
UPDATE: Robinson was on the field in a jersey, but was wearing shorts.
“My understanding is he’s going to be cleared but I thought he’d be cleared for this weekend. But there’s still a question about that,” Rodriguez said at his weekly news conference.
Robinson has been awaiting clarification on his eligibility status since he and three other West Virginia players were granted a temporary restraining order and an immediate injunction over NCAA rules.
The four filed suit against the NCAA after being denied eligibility over the five-year rule and their time spent at the junior college level earlier in their careers.
Things became more complicated for Robinson as it was revealed during the hearing that he did not meet academic progress standards at Texas San Antonio to maintain eligibility. The ruling granted eligibility to the four players, but the Mountaineers were seeking clarity as to whether that applied to Robinson’s situation.
The West Virginia general counsel, compliance officers as well as the Big 12 had been working with the NCAA in order to reach that clarity on Robinson’s eligibility. Last week, Rodriguez said that during his weekly press conference that he had hoped to receive an update in a few days.
Robinson, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound transfer, was named Defensive Player of the Year in the American Athletic Conference last season after recording 43 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks. The Virginia native has played in 43 career games and would bring production and experience to the Mountaineers pass rush.
