Expectations higher for those players familiar with Rich Rodriguez

West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez brought a handful of players with him when he made the transition from Jacksonville State.
Among that list are wide receivers Cam Vaughn, Jarod Bowie, and Jordan McCants, tight end Jacob Barrick, and defensive backs Fred Perry and Derek Carter.
Two other players in offensive lineman Xavier Bausley and safety Keke Tarnue, had previously played under Rodriguez with the Gamecocks but transferred to West Virginia under the previous staff.
West Virginia hasn’t formulated a depth chart at this point but each of those players is expected to be battling for time at their respective positions on the field.
But because those players already have experience playing under Rodriguez, that elevates the overall expectations he has for them when it comes to acclimating.
“Probably a little higher because they’ve been both in the offense and the defense before. And they also have been in the practice routine,” he said.
That goes not only for the expectations, but Rodriguez wants to see the players take the next step in their overall development. That’s largely because they don’t have to battle some of the other things that some players on the roster have to deal with when it comes to the change.
That means Rodriguez plans on coaching each of those players even harder.
“Because they should know what to do,” he said.
