Expectations the same for West Virginia

West Virginia has experienced a wave of change this off-season from the coaching staff to almost the entirety of the roster, but head coach Rich Rodriguez isn’t changing expectations.
Even in his first season atop the program with over 70 new players on the roster, the veteran head coach has a clear goal for his football team.
“Our goal is to win the league every year. Like people worry about what do you think about the playoffs? And then I could give a crap about the playoffs. If you win the league you’re in. That’s our goal every year, the first goal is to win the league and what do we got to do to win it now?” he said.
Of those incoming transfers on the roster, Rodriguez said that half of them weren’t even on the roster during spring but he’s getting an idea of what he has on this football team.
“I think I know what I have but until we go through August camp, I won’t know for sure,” he said.
Still that much annual turnover is not something that he wants to see.
“But if somebody goes and pays an inordinate amount of money for a backup that we have or something like that, then we may have more guys that are transferring,” he said.
Rodriguez likes the talent on the roster and believes that if his team plays well mixed with some good fortune they can have success. In fact, Rodriguez believes that long-term he can win a championship.
“I think we can win it all at West Virginia. That’s going to take a lot of work. We’re not going to be ready, maybe right away but things are in place to do that,” he said.
