Five WVU players taken in MLB draft

Five West Virginia baseball players were picked on day two of the 2025 MLB Draft.
Catcher Logan Sauve was first off the board, going in the seventh round to the Athletics. Outfielder Kyle West and pitchers Robby Porco and Griffin Kirn were all drafted close together in the 13th and 14th rounds. West landed with the Yankees, Porco with the Dodgers, and Kirn also went to the Athletics. Outfielder Skylar King was selected in the 15th round by the Red Sox.
Sauve finished his WVU career hitting .284 with 20 home runs. West batted .298 in two seasons and hit 25 home runs. Porco spent three years on the mound for WVU, while Kirn, who was the Mountaineers’ Friday starter this year, struck out 103 batters in 99 innings. King appeared in 134 games across three seasons and was a steady defensive presence in center field.
Florida International transfer commit Owen Puk, a right-hander who recently joined WVU’s program, was also selected in the draft. He went 4-1 last season with a fastball that touched 99 miles per hour.
This marks the second straight year WVU has had at least five players drafted.
