Former WVU quarterback Garrett Greene impresses at WR in Bucs preseason debut

Garrett Greene isn’t wasting time making an impression in his new role. The former West Virginia quarterback, now working at wide receiver, caught both of his targets for 22 yards in Saturday’s 29-7 preseason win over Tennessee and added a 17-yard punt return.
It’s the latest in a string of solid performances since camp opened, where he’s already pulled in some highlight grabs, including a one-hander in tight coverage.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles likes what he’s seen from Greene’s transition.
“I think the transition has been really good for him,” Bowles said. “He’s very fast, very quick, very tough, and he has very good hands. He’s somebody we love working with… He showed very good skill as a punt returner, which we didn’t know he had. He’s a guy that’s growing every day and can do some things that we really like.”
Greene is listed as an X receiver but probably fits best in the slot, where his speed can create mismatches. Cracking the 53-man roster will be tough given Tampa’s depth, but he’s already putting himself in a strong position for a practice squad spot, and maybe more if he keeps producing like this.
Earlier this week, Greene had an impressive catch in practice that had his teammates and the media talking.
