Former WVU receiver Winston Wright signs with the Cleveland Browns

Former West Virginia wide receiver Winston Wright is getting his NFL opportunity, signing with the Cleveland Browns following a standout college career that spanned multiple programs.
Wright, who played three seasons at WVU from 2019 to 2021, appeared in 49 career games across his time with the Mountaineers, Florida State, and East Carolina. He finished with 3,994 all-purpose yards and 18 total touchdowns, showcasing his versatility as a pass catcher, runner, and dangerous return specialist.
During his time in Morgantown, Wright was a consistent playmaker. He led WVU in receptions and receiving yards in 2021, finishing that season with 63 catches for 688 yards and five touchdowns. He also made his mark on special teams, returning two kickoffs for scores in his Mountaineer career, including a school-record 217 return yards in a single game against Maryland.
After a brief stint at Florida State, Wright transferred to East Carolina for the 2024 season, where he earned Second Team All-America honors as a returner. He racked up 1,255 all-purpose yards and eight receiving touchdowns while returning a kickoff for a score.
Wright’s combination of speed, agility, and special teams ability now gives him a shot to stick with the Browns as they head into training camp.
