U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey has made a ruling to grant an temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction which should allow four West Virginia players to play this coming season.

Sam Ehrlich first reported the news.

The four redshirt seniors are defensive lineman Jimmori Robinson, running back Tye Edwards, safety Justin Harrington and wide receiver Jeff Weimer each of which transferred to the Mountaineers this past off-season after stops at multiple schools.

The suit the Jimmori Robinson et al v. National Collegiate Athletic Association in the Northern District Court of West Virginia Tuesday in Wheeling with each side arguing for around an hour.

“The NCAA is also ordered to declare Jimmori Robinson, Jeffrey Weimer, Tye Edwards and Justin Harrington eligible to play for West Virginia University during the 2025-26 season,” the conclusion read.

Each of the four players had been denied an eligibility waiver by the NCAA with Robinson’s coming Feb. 27, Harrington’s June 5, Edwards’s June 18 and Weimer’s August 8. That led to the players filing a suit in order to extend their eligibility after each spent time at the junior college level.

But during the hearing a claim was revealed by the NCAA’s attorneys that Robinson did not meet academic requirements at his previous school UT San Antonio which could render him ineligible regardless.

“The NCAA has made a decision that waiver will be denied so Mr. Robinson is not in the position to have his eligibility restored by a ruling from this court and the NCAA believes the fact that he’s academically eligible is an independent basis to deny his request for relief here today,” the attorney said during the hearing.

There was no mention of that situation in the conclusion.

Robinson is coming off a massive campaign at Texas San Antonio where he was named American Athletic Defensive Player of the Year and first-team all-conference after recording 43 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles. The Virginia native spent four seasons with the Roadrunners where he recorded a total of 110 tackles, 30 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and 3 forced fumbles across 43 career games.

As for the other three, the injunction clears the way for each of them to suit up for the Mountaineers after they weren’t able to practice with the team as they awaited a decision.

Edwards spent the past two seasons at Northern Iowa where he rushed for 1,557 yards and 11 touchdowns. That included this past season where Edwards rushed for 1,022 yards and 6 scores while catching 12 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. The Florida native also spent one season at Texas San Antonio as well as previous stops at Hutchinson C.C. and Georgia Military College.

Harrington only spent one season at Washington where he appeared in just eight games and recorded a total of three tackles. But prior to that the North Carolina native was at Oklahoma for three seasons where he redshirted in one and then appeared in 15 games over two years where he recorded 29 tackles and a pair of interceptions. Harrington started his career at Bakersfield College.

Weimer started his career at the junior college level at Hartnell College where he caught 78 passes for 1,040 yards and 11 touchdowns. He then moved to City College of San Francisco where he had 75 receptions for 1,253 yards and 17 touchdowns. Weimer would sign with UNLV where he appeared in seven games and recorded 26 catches for 278 yards and score. The California native then moved to Idaho State where he had 75 grabs for 1,016 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2024.
