Kyle West selected by the Yankees in 2025 MLB Draft

West Virginia outfielder Kyle West was taken in the 13th round of the 2025 MLB Draft, being selected by the New York Yankees.
West spent two seasons with the Mountaineers, playing in 115 games, while starting 103 in his two seasons with West Virginia.
West blasted 25 home runs in his two seasons in Morgantown, compiling 81 RBIs as well. West was an All-Big 12 Second Team selection this past season, after being an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection in 2024.
West is a native of Hedgesville, W.Va., attending the University of Charleston (DII) prior to joining the Mountaineers last season. There, he hit 30 home runs with 102 RBIs in two seasons. West, a 6-foot-4, left-handed bat, has serious upside at the plate at the next level, with the ability to hit the ball to all fields with power.
This past season was West’s senior season at WVU, exhausting all of his collegiate eligibility. West ended the 2025 season leading WVU in both home runs as well as in slugging percentage.
A big improvement for West that will likely have to continue is his strikeout rate. In 2024, West had 64 strikeouts in 196 at-bats (32.7%). This past season, West cut that down to 41 strikeouts in 183 at-bats (22.4%). A byproduct of seeing the ball better at the plate meant he was able to reach base more, upping his walk total from 21 in 2024 to 46 total walks in 2025.
