National statistical rankings for West Virginia football: Week 10
The numbers continue to tell the story for West Virginia, which picked up its first Big 12 victory of the season with a 45-35 win over Houston to improve to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in conference play. The Mountaineers showed progress on both sides of the ball and look to carry that momentum forward with Colorado coming to town this week.
WVU ranks 91st nationally in total offense at 358.2 yards per game and continues to lean on its ground attack, which sits 42nd in rushing offense. The passing game remains a work in progress at 115th, while scoring output improved slightly to 99th nationally. Once again, the red-zone offense stands out as a strength, ranking 25th in the country.
Defensively, the Mountaineers rank 106th in total defense, allowing 406.4 yards per game. The group has been steadier against the run (75th) but still struggles in pass coverage (113th). WVU continues to be strong on third down, sitting 35th nationally, and has created more takeaways to reach T-37 in turnover margin.
While time of possession (128th) and penalties remain areas for improvement, West Virginia’s resilience showed against the Cougars. The Mountaineers will now look to stack performances and build momentum.
