National statistical rankings for West Virginia football: Week 4
After four games, the numbers paint a picture of where West Virginia stands heading into the heart of the season. The Mountaineers have been solid on the ground, ranking inside the top 35 nationally in rushing offense, and they remain perfect in the red zone. Defensively, the unit has tightened up against the pass and continues to sit in the top 30 for red zone efficiency.
But there are still some glaring issues. WVU is near the very bottom in third-down conversions and time of possession, and turnover margin hasn’t gone their way. Cleaning up penalties and finding more consistency through the air will be key areas to watch moving forward.
