National statistical rankings for West Virginia football: Week 5
After five games, the numbers tell the story of where West Virginia stands going into the next stretch. The Mountaineers have leaned heavily on the ground game, ranking inside the top 25 nationally in rushing offense, and they continue to be perfect in the red zone.
On the other side, there are still issues that need correcting. WVU is struggling in passing efficiency, third down conversions, and time of possession. Defensively, the Mountaineers have slipped outside the top 75 in total defense and red zone stops, and they continue to allow too many first downs. Cleaning up penalties and improving consistency on both sides of the ball will be critical moving forward.
