National statistical rankings for West Virginia football: Week 6
Six games into the season, the numbers show where West Virginia continues to struggle and where they’re finding success. The Mountaineers remain among the nation’s best running teams, ranking inside the top 30 in rushing offense, and continue to be one of the most efficient in the red zone
Still, offensive inconsistency continues to be an issue. WVU sits outside the top 100 in total offense, passing offense, and scoring, while ranking near the bottom nationally on third and fourth down conversions. Defensively, the Mountaineers have fallen to 95th overall and continue to allow too many first downs, though their third down defense remains solid.
With time of possession still low and both lines needing improved play, finding rhythm and balance on both sides of the ball will be key as the season moves forward.
