National statistical rankings for West Virginia football: Week 7
Six games in and coming off the open week, the numbers show where West Virginia stands nationally and how the rest of the country’s movement affects those rankings.
The Mountaineers remain one of the nation’s top rushing teams, climbing two spots to 25th in rushing offense, and continue to be one of the most efficient teams in the red zone. WVU also made small gains in red zone defense and kickoff returns.
Still, there are several areas in need of improvement. The Mountaineers continue to sit near the bottom nationally in third down conversions and time of possession, while ranking outside the top 100 in both passing and scoring offense. Defensively, WVU holds steady overall but remains near the bottom of the country in total defense.
With a trip to UCF up next, balance and consistency on both sides of the ball will be key as the season moves forward.
