Rich Rodriguez: Jimmori Robinson will play against Kansas
West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez said on his weekly radio show that defensive lineman Jimmori Robinson will play against Kansas this weekend.
Robinson had not played through the first three games, but Rodriguez said he will indeed suit up against the Jayhawks.
“Jimmori Robinson will play his first game with the Mountaineers,” he said.
Rodriguez confirmed that Robinson practiced last week and is in really good shape. But it will be his first game in the system.
Robinson had been awaiting clarification on his eligibility status since he and three other West Virginia players were granted a temporary restraining order and an immediate injunction over NCAA rules.
The four filed suit against the NCAA after being denied eligibility over the five-year rule and their time spent at the junior college level earlier in their careers.
Things became more complicated for Robinson as it was revealed during the hearing that he did not meet academic progress standards at Texas San Antonio to maintain eligibility. The ruling granted eligibility to the four players, but the Mountaineers were seeking clarity as to whether that applied to Robinson’s situation.
The West Virginia general counsel, compliance officers as well as the Big 12 had been working with the NCAA in order to reach that clarity on Robinson’s eligibility.
Robinson, a 6-foot-4, 250-pound transfer, was named Defensive Player of the Year in the American Athletic Conference last season after recording 43 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and 10.5 sacks.
“But we’re excited to have him, he’s a really good player, and I know he’s anxious to play,” Rodriguez said on his radio show.
The Virginia native has played in 43 career games and will bring production and experience to the Mountaineers pass rush.
