Rich Rodriguez press conference summary: 8-15
West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez addressed the media Friday and WVSports.com provided a summary of what was said during his press conference.
–Rodriguez felt that his team didn’t get better today. The defense ran around, but the quarterbacks didn’t make the same strides they’ve been doing. When you make mistakes it’s hard to move onto the next phase and that was the issue today offensively. There were things that shouldn’t happen and the quarterback has a lot of responsibility on their plate and they have to progress better.
–The quarterbacks didn’t make the progression. Rodriguez believes that he has high expectations at every position and they have players and the expectations for the quarterback room is very high. He really likes what they have in there so their expectation is to perform well all the time.
–The players will bounce back or they’ll continue until it happens from a bad practice. Everybody has a different process that they go through and there are mistakes along the way. That’s the most important position not the team and they throw a lot at them at quarterback and they’ll be alright. The goal was to go out today and not have to yell one time.
–All the freshmen are getting reps right now and they don’t have to make a decision until the fourth game. After tomorrow by Monday they are going to see who is in the mix.
–West Virginia did a lot of special teams today in shorts. He is going to try to find a way to get it full speed on special teams and perhaps not tackle.
–You hope that transfers from lower levels have the want to prove themselves. If the guy is coming to your place for a bigger pay day he is coming for the wrong reasons. Evaluation is always important in any recruiting at any sport at any level but never more than now. You have to evaluate the talent and see if he loves football not likes it.
–Rodriguez understands why there are injury reports but he jokes that everybody will be probable.
–Sometimes schools miss on people because they don’t have the right measurables for certain schools. Rodriguez has never got caught up in star rankings. You have to evaluate it.
–Rodriguez said he likes when there are low outside expectations.
