Rich Rodriguez press conference summary post Colorado
West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez addressed the media following the Colorado game and we provide a summary of what was said.
–Rodriguez said his team didn’t panic when things got close. He credited the fans for their impact.
–Rodriguez said they got hurt with the perimeter stuff in their run game and didn’t get as much push but at the end of the game where they needed to run it and were able to get it.
—Scotty Fox did some good stuff but there is some stuff they’d want back. He is a very coachable guy and they needed to throw the ball to move it and he made some nice throws. Fox was made after the interceptions. Freshmen are going to have freshmen moments but if they learn from it and they can get better.
—Curtis Jones is a short yardage back and the first time they got down to the goal line he was breathing down his neck. The running back health situation has been crazy.
—Julian Lewis‘s ability to scramble with pressure they should have had more sacks. They didn’t generate enough pressure trying to get him on the ground but the defense played hard.
–The linebackers play really hard. They knew they were going to throw it to Omarion Miller and he kept making plays. He never really felt comfortable with the game.
–Rodriguez brought up the potential to make a bowl game and said his team has been practicing with more authority. He doesn’t want them to treat practice like a job, treat it like a game. There’s nothing better than a winning locker room. Two more opportunities and will see what happens they’re playing two really good teams but they’ll see what happens.
–Rodriguez didn’t change practice with what they do but they’ve been doing the same routine for 29 years but he’s sprinkling in something different to get their competitive juices flowing. He wants his guys to learn how to compete. He loves to compete.
–Zero fourth down situations are by the book or analytics and it’s all by feel. He will never punt from inside the 40. If they didn’t make it on the last one they would have gone for it.
