Rich Rodriguez press conference summary post Kansas

West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez addressed the media following his team’s 41-10 road loss to Kansas and WVSports.com provides a summary of what was said.
–Rodriguez said that the performance wasn’t good and nothing was good about it. The coaching, playing was not good. They had injuries that were unfortunate but that isn’t the reason they lost.
–Rodriguez felt redshirt senior running back Tye Edwards was going to go because he came on the trip but he couldn’t and it was unfortunate.
–West Virginia has to try to manufacture some run stuff and when they throw they have to be really on the mark and precise with the passing game and protection and routes. They weren’t in any of those categories.
–When they’re able to run the ball it makes things a lot easier but it is what it is. They’ve got to manufacture it some way and did some at the end of the game with some quarterback run stuff.
–Rodriguez felt that the defense played really hard in the first half. They gave up two big plays but the most disappointing was the kickoff return for a score. There’s no excuse for that. They should have blocked a punt or two but they would have, could have done a bunch of stuff.
–Rodriguez said that he felt his team competed to some degree but they weren’t physical at times and they missed more tackles at times than other games especially in the second half.
–The quarterback run stuff gave them a little bit of a different dimension. Jaylen Henderson ran hard and Khalil Wilkins is a fast guy so they wanted to get him some reps. They’ll figure out what they need to do next.
–On defense they were playing well and hanging on but at the end he didn’t think they were as strong as they need to be but the offense wasn’t doing anything to help them.
—Jimmori Robinson was pretty active from what he can see. The coaches will grade it on the way back and they’ll discuss it.
–Rodriguez doesn’t think there’s anybody happy in the locker room but a lot of it is a process. They’re going to get better and better as they go along if they can stay healthy. He told the team he doesn’t know if they gave as much effort during the week as they did before. They were playing a better team and they needed a better week of preparation and that starts with the coaches.
