Rich Rodriguez press conference summary: post TCU

West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez addresses the media following the match-up with TCU and here is a summary of what was said.
–Rodriguez said they played harder but they had chances to win the game. There was a true freshman quarterback with 10 new starters around him in the system but he acquitted himself well. Scotty Fox made some nice throws but there was some true freshman stuff out there. You can’t win if you run for 40 yards.
–Rodriguez liked how the defense battled and tackled better.
—Cam Vaughn gets in a rhythm and gets hot he is a talented guy. Also some of the times they’re playing them determines where the ball will go.
–Rodriguez said he goes for it on fourth down a lot and he expects them to get it. If it’s fourth and one he likes to go for it.
–Rodriguez said that it’s obvious that if you don’t score in the first quarter that it hurts you.
–The running backs are trying hard but West Virginia is not very big. It’s a combination of things it’s moving people off the line and calling a run that’s good against that defense, perimeter blocking and coming off the ball. He hadn’t felt they had come off the ball well. He saw some glimmer of some runs but they didn’t build on it.
–Rodriguez thinks that they were physical today and the defense was physical and tackled. There was stuff that was better and they’ll get better. He said that the crowd showed up and it was a tremendous crowd. Hats off to the fans and he really thought it was a great showing and wished he would have played better and got them more excited.
–As Scotty Fox gets better they’ll be able to do more with him as he gets experience. They’re going to have to give him a bigger menu but they have to help him out by running the ball better. No, they have too much of a menu right now but it’s what they will execute. There are seven or eight of the same calls that got first downs.
