West Virginia head coach Rich Rodriguez appeared on his weekly radio show Monday night and here is a summary of what was said.

–Rodriguez said 24-hour rule, he was really mad for about 25-hours. It’s better this morning because it’s not fair to make everybody miserable around him. It probably helps they have a short week because they need to play again and get this taste out of their mouth. Defensively they didn’t tackle well in space, eye-discipline was really poor. On offense, two penalties cost two touchdowns. It was a bad, bad performance. They could have played perfect and not have won but they definitely could have played better than they did.

Jaylen Henderson was OK but it wasn’t the spark. In his defense there wasn’t a lot that could help him at times. At halftime, they made a change to Khalil Wilkins and he thought they gave them a little spark. They’re going to see what goes on this week with the four quarterbacks they’ve got.

Nicco Marchiol is out in Arizona and one of the doctors said he has a foot problem and will be out for a couple weeks. He is definitely out in the short term and once their doctors talk to the doctors at West Virginia they’ll see what happens next.

–The staff has an idea of who will start but there will be opportunities out there for a lot of different guys at different spots. They are hoping to get Landen Livingston back this week. Kimo Makane’ole is day-to-day but they need to get some more production up front. They’re hopeful Tye Edwards will play, Cyncir Bowers should be back this week. Diore Hubbard played well and made the most of his opportunities.

–Wilkins should get more comfortable each week and he’s a little bit more dynamic runner.

Nick Taylor was one of the young guys that came in and played pretty well at defensive back.

–Rodriguez said that BYU head coach Kalani Sitake is somebody he has known for a long time and he is well respected in the profession. He went out to Provo one time to talk football for a few days in the past. BYU has grown men. Rodriguez expects them to have good practices and play better.

–This will be the first 10:30 p.m. kickoff in his time zone. Everything this week will be moved up a day. If it was 6 p.m., but when it’s at 10 p.m. you have to plan what you’re doing during the day and make sure the guys are awake with the environment being loud.

–There’s a lot of games out there for them to win. It’s a process. He knows what he is doing but he understands the frustration. They will be better in a month than they are today, better in a year than they are today and better in the future. He understands nobody has any patience but it is what it is.

–Rodriguez likes Malik Agbo he is a smart athletic guy but he is light right now. This off-season will be big for him and another year with the strength staff will have him ready.

–Rodriguez said that they had four official visitors and unofficial visitors and got three commitments this weekend. He has a great recruiting staff.

Cam Vaughn hasn’t even come close to the player that he thinks he can be. They need help from the other guys to help him. The coaches also can do some things creative and move him around but they can’t overcomplicate things for the younger quarterbacks.

–The players live in a fantasy world with every meal, snacks, the recovery stuff, cold tubs, hot tubs and all of the stuff they have in their own building that most NFL teams don’t have. Sometimes the guys leave the program and they don’t realize how good they have it. It’s fortunate for them. Players will not go hungry at any time.

–Diore Hubbard is one of the faster guys in the backfield. With all of the injuries he got a chance and he made the most of it. He said he appreciates the opportunity and now they have confidence that they can put him in the game and be part of the regular rotation.
