Ross Hodge discusses awesome experience with Best Virginia, TBT

Ross Hodge has already shown to be a strong supporter of Best Virginia, the West Virginia alumni team in the TBT, and he discussed his experiences.
Hodge joined Inside The Tournament, the official podcast of the TBT, and was asked about being able to watch the team compete with his current West Virginia team in Charleston.
“It was awesome to get to experience that with your fan base. Typically anytime you’re in those settings you’re coaching the game which is a complete different deal than actually being able to be a fan and witness that event and share that experience with the Charleston fans down there,” he said. “And super proud of those Best Virginia guys and everything they’ve been able to do so far.”
After the game, Best Virginia presented the first year West Virginia head coach with the opportunity to advance them on the bracket and it was a moment that stood out to him for many reasons.
The experience also gave him a chance to take his own current West Virginia team down to Charleston to introduce them to the fan base and their passion for basketball.
“They could actually get a chance to feel and see how important Mountaineer basketball was to the state of West Virginia,” he said.
An admitted fan of the event, Hodge said that the week leading up to the start of the TBT gave his team a chance to get the former players back and connect with them.
One player that had ties to Hodge is leading scorer James Reese who played at North Texas. This was a chance for him to reconnect and was excited that he was added to the team.
“One of my favorite parts of this job is reconnecting with former players and seeing them grow not only as professional basketball players but young men as they transition into the next phase of their lives,” he said.
Best Virginia knocked off Shell Shock in the quarterfinal to advance to the semifinals against Eberlein Drive. The game will again be played in Charleston at 6 p.m. Thursday.
“It’s the perfect way to get your basketball fix and celebrate your alumni,” Hodge said.
