West Virginia basketball in any fashion matters to the people in the state.

It’s something that clearly head coach Ross Hodge understands and embraces.

“When you’re around town or anywhere within the state really just the passion that people have for WVU athletics and the men’s basketball program,” he said. “You can definitely feel how important it is and how much is matters to people.”

That trickles down to the TBT alumni team Best Virginia which Hodge and the basketball program were in attendance in Charleston for their quarterfinal win over Shell Shock.

“I think it’s important to get our guys down here and show them a part of the state of West Virginia that they haven’t been yet and get down here in Charleston and see the support. And make the feel connected to something that’s bigger than just themselves,” he said.

Hodge was even given the plaque to update the bracket after Best Virginia advanced to the semifinal.

“I can say how supportive (Ross Hodge) has been. From personally donating to Best Virginia to help make this run possible, buying the team pizza after games, giving us James Reese, coach gets it,” John Flowers tweeted.
