West Virginia outfielder Skylar King was taken in the 15th round of the 2025 MLB Draft, being selected by the Boston Red Sox.

King spent three seasons at West Virginia but started to see increased and consistent playing time in 2024. King played in 134 total games as a Mountaineer, starting 106 of them. King had his best year of the three years this past season, starting 59 games, while he hit .291 in the process. King had 32 RBIs and a .415 on-base percentage, which was third-best on the Mountaineers.

King was WVU’s center fielder each of the last two seasons, bringing the ability to change the game with his speed both on the basepaths and in the outfield. King swiped 22 bases in his career, including 13 this past season.

King is a native of Columbia, S.C., and hits and throws from the left side. King has the ability to hit the ball out of the park, but he mostly relies on his ability to get on base in different ways to help his team. King tallied over 200 at-bats this season but was still able to limit his number of strikeouts, striking out just 29 total times.

King played high school baseball at Brookland-Cayce, where he was ranked as the No. 19 overall player in South Carolina by Perfect Game.
