Top Kansas 3B Colton Sims flips commitment to West Virginia baseball

West Virginia has picked up a significant addition to the 2025 class with the commitment of Colton Sims, a standout third baseman from Shawnee Mission East High School in Prairie Village, Kansas.
Sims, who is 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, is ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 1 third baseman in Kansas and the No. 3 player overall in the state. Nationally, he’s rated No. 232 in the 2025 class.
Perfect Game grades Sims a 9 out of 10, indicating he’s viewed as a potential top-10 round MLB Draft pick and one of the highest-level college prospects in the country.
A right-handed hitter, Sims had previously been committed to Vanderbilt before deciding to flip to West Virginia. He projects as a middle-of-the-order bat with power and size at the next level.
“Coach Sabins first called me about a week ago. Our first conversation flowed super well. This place has a super competitive environment that will be able to put me in an amazing position to be the best person and player I can be.”
“Coach Sabins has done an outstanding job with how he has developed this program. He is super proud of his players and staff as he should be.”
Sims also praised what he saw on his visit to Morgantown. “The facilities at WVU are also top-notch. The attention to detail with everything they have here really stood out to me and my family.”
On the field, Sims describes his approach as energetic and relaxed. “My game style is what I like to call loose, I like to have a lot of fun when I’m on the field.”
