Upcoming decision details for West Virginia 2026 targets

The West Virginia 2026 football recruiting class is now up to 23 known members but several targets are set to make a college decision known this coming week.
Here is a collection of the announcement details as well as the latest for the Mountaineers with each.
July 7
Lincoln City (In.) Heritage Hills athlete Jett Goldsberry – Announcing 5: 30 p.m.
Goldsberry received an offer from the Mountaineers in the spring after a conversation with safeties coach Gabe Franklin and the program has been in the mix since that point. West Virginia made the cut to his top six along with Mississippi, Purdue, Rutgers, North Carolina and Wake Forest. The Big 12 Conference program also received one of his official visits June 17-19. Goldsberry also took official visits to Mississippi, Purdue and Rutgers. The two-way option is being recruited as an athlete by West Virginia but heading into the announcement the momentum seems to be with Mississippi.
Lincoln City (In.) Heritage Hills tight end Tyler Ruxer – Announcing at 5:30 p.m.
Ruxer is a teammate of Goldsberry and also has listed West Virginia among his top six along with Oklahoma, Northwestern, Duke, Purdue and Minnesota. The athletic tight end received an offer from West Virginia in March after a visit to campus during spring practice. He would return with his teammate Goldsberry for an official visit June 17-19. Ruxer also took official visits to Oklahoma, Northwestern and Duke. The industry belief is that Oklahoma sits out front heading into his announcement.
July 8:
Jackson (Tn.) Northside athlete Javonte Smith – Announcing 3:30 p.m.
Smith is down to West Virginia, Tennessee, Missouri and Arkansas after taking official visits to each of those football programs. The versatile athlete could potentially play both sides of the ball but the Mountaineers are targeting him a defensive back with the option to potentially return kicks. Cornerbacks coach Rod West is the lead recruiter for Smith and was able to get him on campus June 13-15 where he left highly impressed with the experience. But in-state Tennessee was able to get his final visit and that could prove to be a difficult hill to overcome.
July 12:
Orland Park (Il.) Carl Sandburg safety Vincent Smith –
Smith is currently committed to Northern Illinois but has a final three of West Virginia, Purdue and Iowa. The Mountaineers extended a scholarship offer in early May with cornerbacks coach Rod West serving as the lead in his recruitment. Smith saw his recruitment take off in the spring with a series of power four offers including his final three along with USC, Iowa State and Kentucky. Smith took an official visit to West Virginia June 6-8 and was highly impressed with the experience but then took a trip to Purdue. Smith has kept things relatively close to the vest, but the Mountaineers are certainly in the hunt.
