West Virginia commitment a full-circle moment for 2027 pitcher Nolan Wilson

For Nolan Wilson, choosing West Virginia was about more than just baseball, it was personal.
The 2027 left-handed pitcher from Upper Saint Clair (PA) announced his commitment to the Mountaineers on Friday, giving WVU another talented piece to develop for the future. But long before he was touching 88.5 mph on the mound, Wilson was a young fan watching West Virginia baseball from the stands.
“The atmosphere, facilities, and the coaches made committing to WVU a no-brainer,” Wilson said. “I grew up a fan my whole life. I actually have a signed ball that I got from the team when I was a lot younger.”
Now, he’ll have a chance to wear the jersey himself.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound lefty brings a competitive edge and an advanced feel for pitching. His arsenal includes a fastball that sits in the 86–87 range and touches 88.5 mph, as well as a changeup, curveball, and slider. But it’s not just about velocity — Wilson prides himself on command, pitch mix, and making hitters uncomfortable.
“My playing style is a crafty lefty. I’m able to mix pitches up and use my arm-side run to get weak contact and strikeouts,” he said. “I plan to be someone you can rely on every time I step on the rubber. I feel I can compete with anyone in the country.”
West Virginia’s recent success on the national stage hasn’t gone unnoticed, especially with recruits like Wilson who are paying attention to the rise of the program under Coach Steve Sabins.
“Coach Sabins is a big part of what is starting at WVU, but it’s just getting started,” Wilson said. “With the facilities there, it gives you everything the program needs to get to Omaha.”
