West Virginia welcomed one of the top young guards in the country to campus this weekend as 2027 West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West point guard Joshua Tyson made an unofficial visit.

Tyson, ranked No. 86 overall and the No. 23 point guard nationally by Rivals, has been on the radar of several high-major programs after a standout run this offseason. The 6-foot-2 guard has collected double-digit offers and continues to draw interest from across the Midwest and beyond.

Tyson averaged 15.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game while leading Lakota West to the OHSAA Division I state semifinals last season. His strong play with Phenom United on the Adidas 3SSB circuit has also boosted his stock heading into the fall.

The Ohio native already holds offers from multiple Power Five schools and has been in consistent contact with several staffs. Earlier this year, he spoke highly of the opportunities in front of him, saying that the attention “just gives me a reason to work even harder” while focusing on staying level-headed through the process.

For West Virginia, the visit was a chance to start building a connection with one of the top young guards in the region as the staff continues putting together its 2027 board.
