The West Virginia basketball roster had to rebuild almost entirely from scratch when new head coach Ross Hodge took over the program with a series of roster additions.

But how has that construction come together?

WVSports.com takes a look at the way that the roster has been built and where the pieces have come from in putting together what the 2025-26 basketball team will look like this year.

The Mountaineers are currently sitting at 14 players on the roster out of an allowable 15 slots. So, while there is still room to add a player to the roster, the majority of the work has already been completed.

Returning Players:

The West Virginia basketball roster experienced almost a complete turnover with only Oyeadier returning after he initially entered the transfer portal right before the April deadline. On a team that is lacking some depth at the five spot, Oyeadier could end up seeing some minutes in the front court. There is still some unknown here even with Oyeadier returning though as he didn’t suit up for the program last season.

With so much turnover, West Virginia had to get older in a hurry and the coaching staff accomplished that with seven senior transfers and another in the junior class. The Mountaineers were able to fill out the bulk of the roster, getting a proven center option in Obioha, a proven point guard who knows Hodge’s system in Floyd and several shooters and scorers. West Virginia added Eaglestaff who is coming off a strong season at North Dakota and Huff who is the nation’s leading returning three-point shot maker.

To add to that, Hodge was able to bring over the American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year in Lorient with him from North Texas to provide some pop in the frontcourt. While Moore won’t be eligible for the first five games due to having his waiver approved, the Mountaineers will need his ability to get downhill at the rim and his length and versatility.

As for the rest of the pieces, this is a balanced group that, while not perfect offers a lot of size, length, and flexibility as Hodge put the puzzle together for this team.

West Virginia was able to address a healthy chunk of the roster through the transfer portal but still needed to round things out with some high school additions. Each of these players come from a good, strong basketball pedigree high school and has competed at a high level.

Thomas was previously committed to Hodge at North Texas and has been a highly productive player at a powerhouse school. Forsythe is another who has been very good and is somebody who should be able to step in and challenge for time immediately as a player that is capable of knocking down shots, especially from the three-point line. Jenkins is a top 100 player in the 2026 class, but elected to reclassify in order to join the West Virginia team immediately, where he gives Hodge another true point guard. That is critical given the fact that there wasn’t another true option there. Feenane played at Columbus with a loaded roster but brings both size and some athleticism to give at least another option.
