Softball America Stars of the Week: Rodi, Meylan, Pickering, Walker

The Softball America staff will pick four student-athletes as our college softball players of the week following the latest slate of games. Our award system isn’t necessarily stat-based but rather players who left a lasting impact as we watched games from the previous week. Who changed the tune of their teams? Who made the headlines? Who might be the breakout star during the season?
Arianna Rodi, INF, South Carolina
Rodi brought the power in South Carolina’s series sweep over Duke. The power hitting junior hit a go-ahead in all three games. She also hit a home run in the Gamecocks’ mid-week win over Charlotte. She finished the week with a .615 batting average and 12 RBIs.
Ruby Meylan, RHP, Oklahoma State
Meylan picked up six wins this past week, throwing 23.1 scoreless innings with 30 strikeouts. Meylan was used in a variety of ways for the Cowgirls, starting games and coming from the bullpen. The highlight of the week was her complete game shutout against Nebraska and outdueling Jordy Bahl.

Kasidi Pickering, OF, Oklahoma
Pickering started her week with a walk-off three-run blast to survive an upset scare from Bowling Green. Over the weekend, she bashed three more home runs. She drove in 12 runs over seven games for the Sooners.
Madison Walker, INF, Missouri
Walker was another heavy hitter. The Olathe, Kan. native had quite the homecoming at the Shocker Invitational. She homered four times, including twice against Jordy Bahl, and collected 13 RBIs over five games. Walker went 8-for-19 at the plate.
