Alabama has been hard at work on the recruiting trail during the spring evaluation period. The staff has recently checked in on a handful of top 2024 targets, but entered the race for a few blue-chip recruits this week as well.

One of their new offers was to Texas-based sophomore running back Rickey Stewart, Jr.

“I was surprised. Just kept on smiling,” the product of Tyler (Tx.) told BamaInsider. “It really made me want to start being a better player and start following my dreams. Just being a better football player.”

Area recruiter Holmon Wiggins was the one to deliver the good news to Stewart on Tuesday.

“He asked if I would come down in the summer to come see them, and I was like, ‘Yes sir,'” Stewart said. “He was talking about how it’s a family over there. Basically, he wanted me to join their family.”

Stewart holds 18 offers thus far, including ones from Arkansas, Baylor, Michigan, Ole Miss, and TCU. At this juncture, however, one school leads the way in Stewart’s recruitment.

“Right now, Alabama is No. 1,” Stewart said.

Elaborating on his interest in the Crimson Tide, Stewart cited their winning tradition as the main reason why they’re atop his leaderboard.

“I like how they work together to go far,” the Chapel Hill High School product said. “The championships. Just how their program is… [playing for Alabama] would mean a lot of things because I’ve never been on team that wins that many championships.”

If Stewart does make it out to Tuscaloosa next month or in July, it would mark his first-ever visit to Alabama.

“I want to see how the campus is,” Stewart said. “How everything is around there. How the players are and how they function with each other.”
