BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Alabama men’s basketball team (31-5, 16-2 SEC) is heading to the Sweet Sixteen after yet another impressive performance in the NCAA Tournament. On Saturday night, the top-seeded Crimson Tide beat No. 8 seed Maryland 73-51 in front of an Alabama-heavy crowd.

After getting down early, the team was able to battle back before taking a 28-23 halftime lead. From there, it only got more lopsided, mostly due to the performances of freshman forward Brandon Miller and veteran guard Jahvon Quinerly.

Miller went scoreless in a 96-75 opening-round victory over No. 16 seed Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. On Saturday, he bounced back in a big way, scoring 19 points to go with seven rebounds and a block. Quinerly was the leading score of the game though. He posted 22 points with two assists and three steals. He was also 4-of-6 from the three-point line.

Alabama also got a crucial game out of center Charles Bediako. In 28 minutes, the 7-foot, 225-pound sophomore put up 10 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks. It was his second double-double in the Crimson Tide’s last three games. The struggles from the free throw line continued (2-of-6), but he’s been a vital part of the team’s success this season.

Up next, Alabama will take on No. 5 seed San Diego State in the Sweet Sixteen. That game is set for Friday, March 24. The Tipoff time for the matchup should be announced soon.
