Alabama board approves contracts for five head coaches, two basketball assistants

The Compensation Committee of the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees met on Monday, July 7, and approved contracts for five head coaches and two basketball assistants.

Brian Adams, who joined Nate Oats’ staff last offseason, received a contract extension through April 30, 2027, that will pay him $400,000 annually. Recent hire Chris Fleming, who replaced Ryan Pannone, earned a 2-year contract worth $400,000. UA athletic director Greg Byrne said Fleming’s contract will be a “slight offset” from his remaining term with Portland.

Fleming had spent the last 10 seasons in the NBA, most recently working with the Portland Trail Blazers during the 2024-25 season. He also worked for the Chicago Bulls (2019-24), Brooklyn Nets (2016-19) and Denver Nuggets (2015-16). This marks the third straight offseason that Oats has brought in an assistant from the NBA ranks to serve on his coaching staff.

In late March, Alabama men’s basketball assistant coach Preston Murphy received a contract extension that will run through April 30, 2027, and pay him $675,000 annually. Now, all three of Oats’ assistant coaches are under contract through the 2026-27 men’s basketball season.

Tide women’s basketball head coach Kristy Curry and baseball head coach Rob Vaughn both received 5-year extensions through June of 2030. Vaughn will earn $1.275 million annually.

Also in late March, the Compensation Committee of the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees approved deals for 15 football staffers, including offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.
