Alabama DC Kane Wommack among semifinalists for Broyles Award
Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack was named a semifinalist for the 2025 Broyles Award, the Frank and Barbara Broyles Foundation announced Tuesday.
Wommack is one of 15 semifinalists for the Broyles, an award recognizing college football’s top assistant coach. The winner of the 30th annual Broyles Award will be announced live during a formal ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2026, in Hot Springs, Ark. Alabama has produced three Broyles recipients in its history, including Steve Sarkisian (2020), Mike Locksley (2018) and Kirby Smart (2009).

- His work coordinating the Alabama defense has played an important role in the Tide’s 10-2 regular season finish and a 7-1 conference standing, leading to a berth in the 2025 SEC Championship game as the league’s top seed
- Oversees a defensive group that has allowed just 16.5 points per game and 282.2 total yards per contest, with both marks ranking in the top-12 nationally
- His defensive scheme has surrendered an average of just 157.8 passing yards per game, the lowest figure in the SEC and seventh-lowest figure in the country
- Coordinated a group that owns a 73.3 percent red zone scoring rate, the 11th-lowest number in Division I
