Alabama LB Qua Russaw 'maybe a little ahead' on recovery schedule, DeBoer says

Alabama linebacker Qua Russaw has been out for just over a month, needing surgery to recover from a broken foot suffered against Georgia back on Sept. 27.
During Wednesday’s weekly SEC coaches teleconference, Crimson Tide head coach Kalen DeBoer gave a positive update on Russaw’s recovery.
“Yeah, he’s doing really good,” DeBoer said. “On a timeline that we’d hoped, maybe even a little ahead. We don’t know exactly what that’s gonna be, we’re not quite there yet, but he’s making great progress. You can see even in his face, he’s feeling good about the direction it’s going and can’t wait to get back out there.”
The redshirt sophomore was Alabama’s starter at ‘wolf’ linebacker to begin the season, posting three tackles and a sack before his injury. In his absence, redshirt sophomore Yhonzae Pierre has filled in nicely, leading the team with four sacks on the year.
Jah-Marien Latham staying engaged while sidelined
Another player in the Wolf linebacker room that’s been sidelined is redshirt senior Jah-Marien Latham, who suffered a neck injury that has ruled him out for the season.

DeBoer also positively commented on how Latham is continuing to help out and engage his teammates while he’s been out this season.
“He’s out there today cheering the guy on,” DeBoer said “Those guys that we talk about that are on the field, that bring great energy, there’s so much respect for Jah-Marien. You see that in how important it is for us to be successful. He’s out there cheering us on, helping other guys out, looking at the calls. He’s engaged, even understanding his circumstances.”
Alabama has an open date this week before hosting LSU on Nov. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT and will air on ABC.
