Alabama names Ty Simpson its starting quarterback for 2025 season

Ty Simpson has been named Alabama’s starting quarterback ahead of the 2025 football season, multiple sources tell BamaOnLine. Simpson was supposedly informed in front of the team.
The Tuscaloosa News first reported the quarterback news on Monday.
Simpson, a redshirt junior, exited spring practice as the favorite to win the Crimson Tide’s QB1 job, and after one preseason scrimmage, he is expected to claim the role behind center.
Simpson has spent the past two years as Alabama’s backup quarterback, playing behind Jalen Milroe. Now that the latter is a member of the Seattle Seahawks, the starting job was open, and Simpson, who waited his turn, has seized the opportunity in Year 4 in Tuscaloosa.
Simpson is the most experienced quarterback on the Crimson Tide’s 2025 roster, having played in six games each of the last two seasons and attempted 45 passes, completing 25 of them for 346 combined yards. Simpson has yet to throw a touchdown pass at the collegiate level, but he has crossed the goal line three times on runs (22 carries, 130 yards, 3 TDs).

Simpson has put together a strong offseason, whether being added to the Alabama leadership group, participating in the Manning Passing Academy or holding off his fellow quarterbacks for the starting job. Austin Mack and Keelon Russell also pushed for the coveted role, but the Tide veteran ultimately won the battle after competing for it the last three seasons.
Alabama will kick off the 2025 season, now with Simpson behind center, on the road at Florida State on Saturday, August 30. The Crimson Tide’s opener is set to start at 2:30 p.m. (ABC).
