Alabama Pregame Show: Reaction to Oklahoma loss, latest CFP rankings
Alabama lost to Oklahoma, 23-21, last weekend in Tuscaloosa, marking the Crimson Tide’s first SEC loss of the 2025 season and dropping its overall record to 8-2 with two games left to play.
In the Week 12 loss, Alabama doubled Oklahoma in yards, 406-212, and first downs, 23-12, but three total turnovers doomed the Tide and resulted in its first loss at Bryant-Denny Stadium with Kalen DeBoer as the head coach. UA’s defense played well enough to win, limiting the Sooners to 212 yards, but turnovers and special teams miscues were too much to overcome.
Alabama dropped six spots in the latest College Football Playoff rankings and came in one spot behind Notre Dame. The committee pointed to the teams’ losses, rather than their wins. UA has four wins over teams currently ranked in the CFP Top 25, while the Irish have only one.
The Crimson Tide has no room for error over the next two weeks, as it hosts Eastern Illinois and travels to Auburn to close the regular season. Win both of those games, and it’s likely that UA will play in the SEC Championship Game. Simply making the conference title game should also be enough for a playoff berth. Lose at Auburn, however, and those hopes are over.

But before the Iron Bowl, the Tide will face an FCS team that has lost six games in a row. Prior to the Eastern Illinois contest, Alabama will recognize its 2025 senior class, which features 27 total players, including 17 on scholarship. Barring the Tide hosting a playoff game in December, this will be their final times suiting up in front of the home crowd at Bryant-Denny.
Given EIU’s record, this weekend should be a chance to see a lot of Alabama’s players take the field. BamaOnLine staff writers Charlie Potter and Blake Byler discuss which young players they want to see play extended reps and share their final thoughts on the Tide’s latest loss.
