Alabama updates depth chart ahead of Week 14 home game vs. Auburn

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama made a change to its depth chart before its home finale.

With Deontae Lawson set to miss the remainder of the Crimson Tide’s 2024 season because of injury, Alabama now lists Justin Jefferson as its starting Stinger linebacker and freshman Justin Okoronkwo as his backup at the position. Jihaad Campbell remains the starting Mike linebacker with Jeremiah Alexander behind him on the depth chart for the Iron Bowl.

Earlier in the week, Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack said Jefferson will wear the green-dot helmet, which allows him to talk to the ‘backer until 15 seconds on the play clock.

“Justin Jefferson has been doing that all season,” Wommack said. “He’s kind of our No. 2 there in that position and has done a really great job. Obviously, Jihaad can do it. It’s just Jihaad plays so many different positions for us that it’s hard when a guy’s moving around like that for him to be the green-dot communication. 

“So we have two guys that certainly can handle it, but Justin will take the majority of the responsibility.”

Lawson is the latest Alabama player who will miss time because of injury. Safety Keon Sabb, wide receiver Cole Adams and linebacker Que Robinson aren’t listed on the depth chart, either. The Tide will be down three defensive starters in its home finale against Auburn.
