Alabama wide receiver Caleb Odom plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Hayes Fawcett reports. Odom is the fifth Crimson Tide player to transfer in the 20-day winter window.

Odom, a true freshman, has played in all 12 of Alabama’s games this year and made one start (Mercer). The 6-foot-5, 227-pound wide receiver has caught seven passes for 65 yards this fall, and his position coach praised his approach and development earlier this year.

“I am so proud of that young man,” said Alabama wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard. “I just want it to be very clear. His growth as a player has been exponential throughout this season, that’s why he’s played as much as he has.

“When you’re a bigger guy like he is, you’re really working to get in and out of your breaks more efficiently and be able to move in a way that’s more of a receiver. Obviously, he was recruited here to be a tight end initially. I’m super proud of his progress to this point. Really reliable kid, tough, willing to do whatever it is that we ask him to do.”

Odom was rated as the nation’s No. 1 tight end in the 2024 recruiting class, according to On3. A former 5-star recruit, Odom was considered the No. 30 overall prospect before he enrolled early at Alabama and ultimately moved back to wide receiver under the new regime.

The NCAA transfer portal’s 20-day window will open on Monday, December 9, and will close on Saturday, December 28. A second, but brief, 10-day window will open from April 16-25.
