The Maxwell Award revealed its preseason watch list for the 2025 season on Monday, kicking off two weeks of watch list unveilings, and one of Alabama’s brightest stars made the cut.

Crimson Tide wide receiver Ryan Williams was one of 80 players named to the watch list for the Maxwell, which has been annually presented to the top player in college football since 1937.

Williams, a sophomore, started every game as a true freshman during Alabama’s 2024 season. He caught 48 passes for 865 yards and eight touchdowns, leading the Crimson Tide in yards and touchdown catches last year as a rookie. Williams also rushed for 48 yards and two more scores on just four attempts, giving him 10 total touchdowns in his first season.

Williams caught multiple passes in every game of his freshman campaign and recorded 100 receiving yards twice. His best performance was in Alabama’s biggest game of the season, a 177-yard outing against the Georgia Bulldogs. Williams scored the go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter, which was a highlight reel-leading 75-yard catch and run.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell will be announced on November 11, with three finalists unveiled on November 25. The winner of the 89th Maxwell Award will be announced on December 11.

Five Alabama players have previously won the Maxwell Award, including AJ McCarron (2013), Derrick Henry (2015), Tua Tagovailoa (2018), DeVonta Smith (2020) and Bryce Young (2021).
