Alabama's Deontae Lawson, LT Overton named to Lott IMPACT Trophy watch list

The Lott IMPACT Trophy announced its preseason watch list candidates on Wednesday, May 28, and two key members of the Alabama Crimson Tide defense made the list of players.
Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson and defensive lineman LT Overton were among the 42 defensive players to make the list, while the SEC led all conferences with 16 candidates.
A two-and-a-half-year starter, Lawson played in 11 of the Crimson Tide’s games last fall before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the road loss to Oklahoma. Prior to his setback, the in-state linebacker recorded 76 tackles and was also responsible for 6.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups, one interception and one forced fumble in Year 4.
Overton joined the Alabama football program last offseason after beginning his college career at Texas A&M. He worked at the new Bandit position in Kane Wommack’s defensive scheme and was one of the Tide’s top pass rushers this past season. Overton finished with 35 tackles, three tackles for loss, two sacks, nine quarterback hurries and a forced fumble in 2024.

Named after Pro Football Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, the Lott IMPACT Trophy is annually presented to the Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year, which is “college football’s top defensive player who has had the biggest impact on his team both on and off the field.” The acronym IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
Two Alabama players have won the Lott – DeMeco Ryans (2005) and Will Anderson (2022). The 2025 winner will be announced in December and is selected by a national voter panel.
