AP: Downs named SEC Newcomer of the Year; 10 from Alabama on All-SEC teams

Alabama freshman safety Caleb Downs has been named the SEC Newcomer of the Year by the Associated Press, it was announced on Monday. Downs was also selected to the AP’s All-SEC second team and was one of 10 Crimson Tide players to land on the postseason teams.

Representing Alabama as first-team All-SEC honorees were offensive linemen JC Latham and Tyler Booker, linebacker Dallas Turner, cornerback Kool-Aid McKinstry and placekicker Will Reichard. Joining Downs on the second team was quarterback Jalen Milroe, defensive lineman Justin Eboigbe, linebacker Chris Braswell and cornerback Terrion Arnold.

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels was unanimously named the AP SEC Offensive Player of the Year, while Mississippi State linebacker Nathaniel Watson was the SEC Defensive Player of the Year. Missouri head coach Eliah Drinkwitz was named the SEC Coach of the Year.

All-SEC teams were voted on by a panel of 14 writers and broadcasters covering the league.
