Former Alabama guard JD Davison wins NBA title with Boston Celtics

The Boston Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks in the 2024 NBA Finals, 4-1, and former Alabama men’s basketball player JD Davison, now in Year 2 as a pro, is an NBA champion.
Alabama head coach Nate Oats was in attendance to support him on Monday night.
Davison, a second-round pick by the Celtics in 2022, appeared in eight games for Boston this season and averaged 2.0 points, 1.3 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game while shooting 41.7 percent from the field. Davison last saw game action for the Celtics back in mid-April.
The former Crimson Tide standout did, however, shine for Boston’s G League team, the Maine Celtics. Davison averaged 21.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game while shooting 45.1 percent from the floor. Davison started all 28 of the games that he played. As a two-way player, he was unable to play during Boston’s postseason run to an NBA title.
As a freshman at Alabama in 2021-22, Davison saw action in all 33 games, making six starts. He earned a spot on the SEC All-Freshman team, becoming the sixth straight UA player to earn the accolade, and finished the season leading the team with 4.3 assists per game, while ranking second in steals (1.0), third in rebounding (4.8) and fourth in scoring (8.5).
