Alabama guard Houston Mallette will officially be back for the 2025-26 basketball season.

The Crimson Tide’s NIL collective, Yea Alabama, announced on Wednesday that the senior has been approved for a medical redshirt and will return to Tuscaloosa for a fifth and final year.

Mallette transferred from Pepperdine to Alabama last offseason and played in six games before his season ended due to nagging knee injuries. The guard averaged 3.2 points per game while shooting 58.3% from the field and 50% from three. While at Pepperdine, Mallette averaged 13 or more points per game each season and shot 41.5% as a junior in 2023-24.

Having played three full seasons at Pepperdine and six games with the Tide this past season, Mallette had to request a medical redshirt for the 2024-25 campaign. Alabama head coach Nate Oats has said he expected that to be granted, and on Wednesday, it was official.

“Houston Mallette, we submitted all the paperwork to the SEC for his medical redshirt – we don’t anticipate there being any issues there,” Oats said earlier this month. “He’s in with (trainer) Clarke (Holter) about every day in the training room. He’s come along really well.”

Alabama currently has 11 scholarship basketball players on its roster for the 2025-26 season.
