No. 11 Alabama basketball lost its first game of the year last Thursday against now-No. 1 Purdue, but the Crimson Tide’s non-conference gauntlet continues this week. On Wednesday night the team will travel to Chicago to face No. 8 Illinois, its third consecutive top-10 opponent.

This is the return game of a semi-home-and-home series that began last season. Alabama and Illinois met in Birmingham last November for the annual C.M. Newton Classic, a game the Tide won handily. This year the two teams will play at the United Center in Chicago, the home of the Bulls.

Illinois is in its ninth season under head coach Brad Underwood and has become a consistent power in the Big Ten. After a 6-seed in the NCAA Tournament and a second round exit a season ago, the Illini look to be much improved this year. They’re off to a 4-0 start on the season and already have a massive win under the belt over No. 15 Texas Tech last week.

Though the team lost a first round pick to the NBA last summer in Kasparas Jakucionis, it brought back some talented returners in Kylan Boswell and Tomislav Ivisic. In the portal it added Zvonimir Ivisic, former Kentucky Wildcat and Arkansas Razorback and brother of Tomislav, as well as Andrej Stojakovic, son of former NBA All-Star, Peja.

Tipoff between Alabama and Illinois is set for 8 p.m. as the Crimson Tide looks for its second top-10 road win of the season.
