Year 2 of the Kalen DeBoer era for Alabama football is one day away from kicking off. Tomorrow afternoon the Crimson Tide will begin its 2025 campaign on the road, taking on traditional ACC power Florida State.

Alabama suffered a difficult season for its high standards in the first year under DeBoer, going 9-3 in the regular season for the first time since 2010 and missing the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff by just one spot. The season concluded with an even worse taste left in the mouths of Crimson Tide fans, losing to an unranked Michigan team in the ReliaQuest Bowl.

There are higher expectations around this year’s Alabama team compared to the way it finished last season. The Tide brought back a number of key contributors for their senior years, and made a splash hire in the offseason by reuniting DeBoer with his longtime offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb.

On the other side, perhaps no team in college football had a more disappointing 2024 season than Florida State. The Seminoles had a disastrous 2-10 record just one year after going undefeated in the regular season, setting up a much-needed bounce back year for Mike Norvell.

Saturday’s game is the first leg of a home-and-home between the two schools agreed to back in 2019. The return game will take place next season as the Seminoles come to Saban Field at Bryant-Denny Stadium on Sept. 19, 2026.
