Injury updates on Jam Miller, Josh Cuevas ahead of SEC Championship Game
Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer provided updates on a pair of injured starters on Sunday.
The Crimson Tide will play Georgia in the SEC Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 6, and DeBoer spoke to reporters via a conference call for 20 minutes. He shared the latest on tight end Josh Cuevas and running back Jam Miller. Cuevas has missed the last two games after suffering a foot injury in practice, while Miller left the Iron Bowl with a lower-leg injury.
“I would expect Josh to probably not be with us for the weekend,” DeBoer said. “Still don’t have much more information on Jam. He’ll continue to go through his testing early this week here today and tomorrow.”
Cuevas was in Auburn, but he was in a walking boot and used a scooter to move around.
Miller finished Alabama’s 27-20 win over the Tigers as the Tide’s leading rusher. The senior ran for 83 yards on 15 carries before leaving the game in the second half. Miller needed help off the field from UA trainers and was seen using crutches on the Jordan-Hare Stadium sideline.
Alabama played two other running backs against Auburn, including Daniel Hill, who ran for 39 yards on 11 carries, and freshman AK Dear. Dear played one snap and caught a 6-yard screen. DeBoer assessed the Tide’s running back situation with Miller’s availability in question and the team already without Kevin Riley, who suffered a jaw injury against Eastern Illinois.

“They’ll all have to do their part,” DeBoer said. “We’ve gotten AK Dear a few more reps on top of what Daniel Hill has done, and Dre Washington is ready, and he continues to take reps in practice. We’ve just gotta keep plugging away with guys that are excited about their opportunity.
“Obviously, you don’t like the situation that has presented itself and why they are gonna be on the football field. But these guys are gonna give everything they’ve got to help our team.”
